SFU Student wins Regional 2020 River Symposium
Loretto, PA (01/27/2021) — Congratulations to Saint Francis University sophomore, Matthew Berzonsky. The Environmental Engineering student won first place at Bucknell University's virtual 2020 River Symposium undergraduate poster competition held last November.
His authored work, entitled "Analyzing the Impact of Mine Drainage Residuals on Phosphorus Sequestration and Agricultural Production," was among dozens of presenters from regional universities.
The work was co-authored by fellow Environmental Engineering student, Benjamin Dumm, and Environmental Engineering alum, Sarah White. Along with faculty members, Dr. Travis Tasker, Mr. James Eckenrode, and retired faculty member Dr. William Strosnider and founder of Hedin Environmental, Bob Hedin.

Engineering at SFU
Saint Francis University offers a suite of engineering degree programs that allow students to explore broad engineering disciplines as well as signature programs in focused fields. Offering B.S. degrees in General, Environmental and Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering, students have the opportunity to conduct research with a faculty member in their very first year.
Susquehanna River Symposium
Since 2006, the annual Susquehanna River Symposium has connected students, scientists and engineers from throughout the Susquehanna River region. Participants share ideas about issues within the watershed and increase awareness of river health, environmental policy and sustainability issues facing the mid-Atlantic. In addition to scientific panels and keynote speakers, the event also features a student research poster competition, open to college and university students from throughout the region.
