SFU's Alpha Phi Omega celebrates 50th anniversary with 20 person New Member Class
Loretto, PA (05/30/2019) — During their National Convention in Austin, Texas last year, which took place from December 27-30, 2018, the Upsilon Beta Chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity here at Saint Francis University was recognized for their upcoming 50th Anniversary that took place in March of this year. The Convention presented our Upsilon Beta Chapter with a certificate recognizing their commitment to service for the past 50 years here on our campus.
The members of the chapter decided to celebrate this milestone in their own way. During the spring 2019 recruitment season, the members of Alpha Phi Omega recruited 20 new members into their organization, who were then initiated as full members of the organization on March 21, 2019. The members of the Upsilon Beta Chapter later learned that this was their largest New Member class ever recorded in their chapter's history.
Additionally, the chapter announced a new partnership with the Dorothy Day Outreach Center here on campus. The chapter has adopted the Outreach Center as one of their official philanthropy partners and has made a commitment to assisting the Center with coordinating more student volunteer efforts throughout the academic year.
During the 2018/2019 academic year, the President of the organization was Mitchell Hogue of Loretto, PA and the Recruitment Chair was Katherine (Katie) Augustine of Butler, PA. The newly-elected President for the 2019/2020 academic year is Joshua Blair of Matteson, IL.
Alpha Phi Omega is the single most represented co-educational intercollegiate service organization in the United States. Since 1925, more than 470,000 members on over 375 campuses continue to provide more service on more campuses than any other collegiate service organization.
It is the vision of Alpha Phi Omega to be the premier, inclusive, campus-based, leadership development organization through the provision of service to others and the creation of community.
