SFU Nursing Ranked Best in State 3 Years in a Row
02/28/2020 (02/28/2020) — Saint Francis University's baccalaureate nursing (BSN) program has been ranked the number one nursing program in Pennsylvania by RegisteredNursing.org for the third year in a row.
Seventy-eight nursing programs were assessed on several factors, which represent how well a program supports students towards licensure and beyond. Past and present NCLEX-RN "pass-rates" weighted by year, were analyzed for this ranking.
Saint Francis University's Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program recently was ranked tied for first out of over 900 nursing programs in the country by RNCarees.org.
Additionally, the program recently became the only one in the state to have 100 percent of its graduates pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) for the past six years.
"We are delighted by this ranking, and so grateful for all of the time and effort that the faculty, students, and administration have put forth in achieving such outstanding outcomes," said Dr. Rita Trofino, who serves as the Associate Dean in the School of Health Sciences and Education, Nursing Department Chair, and Professor of Nursing.
According to Dr. Trofino, job placement has been excellent, as 100 percent of graduates who seek professional employment within 3 months of graduation have jobs in the profession. Most have jobs within two months of graduation. Areas of employment for recent graduates include: United States Army, Conemaugh Health System, West Penn Hospital, West Virginia Ruby Memorial Medical Center, UPMC Altoona, UPMC Mercy, UPMC Shadyside, UPMC Children's, UPMC Presbyterian, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Eastern Maine Medical Center, UPMC Somerset, Jefferson Hospital, University of Maryland Medical Center, Allegheny General Hospital, and The Cleveland Clinic.
Saint Francis has been providing quality undergraduate nursing education (BSN) for more than 30 years and has recently built upon that excellence with the new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), Leadership/Education Track (L/E) which opened in fall of 2016, and the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner(FNP) which began admitting students in Summer of 2019. The Post Masters FNP Certificate Program will begin admitting students in the fall of 2020. The MSN programs are now accepting applications for its summer cohort. The BSN is accepting students for the fall of 2020.
The baccalaureate nursing program and FNP and Post Master's FNP at Saint Francis University has full approval by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing. The baccalaureate degree program and MSN Leadership/Education and MSN FNP programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
