SFU Adjunct Assistant Professor Published in the Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting (JLNC)
Loretto, PA (03/25/2021) — Saint Francis University Adjunct Assistant Professor, Dr. Sherry DelGrosso, DNP, R.N., was the principal researcher for an article published in the Spring 2021 Journal of Legal Nurse Consulting, the official publication of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC).
Legal nurse consulting is a specialized profession where licensed registered nurses utilize their knowledge and expertise in medically-related litigation and legal matters, including medical malpractice, personal injury, workers' compensation, life-care planning, elder law, product liability, forensics, and more.
In the study, Dr. DelGrosso, Legal Nurse Consultant, along with Dr. Mila Carlson, Ph.D., MSHSA, R.N., CNLCP, CMSP-F, examined the question of succession planning for legal nurse consulting businesses. Their article, Succession Planning: An Overlooked Business Strategy, addressed five business succession categories as they apply to legal nurse consultant entrepreneurs: Administrative, Financial, Information Technology, Legal, and Professional. "Succession planning is an organized method of documenting the assets and processes of [a] business and determining responsibilities for the business to continue in [the owner's] absence" (Carlson, 2018, para. 1).
Dr. DelGrosso served as the principal researcher for the survey, Legal Nurse Consultants: What Are Your Plans? that was sent to approximately 1,700 members of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants (AALNC). DelGrosso shared, "The survey provided valuable information and will serve as a foundation for future research to explore continued trends as it pertains to demographics, practice specialties, exit strategies, and resources that may be useful for AALNC members to successfully exit the practice. Additional areas of future research may include topics such as mentoring and business support and development."
