Saint Francis University Receives Largest Unrestricted Annual Fund Gift from Anonymous Alumni

by Erin McCloskey

Loretto, PA (05/31/2024) — Saint Francis University is thrilled to announce the receipt of a $500,000 gift, the largest unrestricted annual fund gift from a living alumnus in its history. This extraordinary contribution is a testament to the enduring impact of the University's Catholic and Franciscan mission.

Father Malachi Van Tassell, T.O.R., Ph.D., University President, expressed his profound gratitude for the gift, "The University is grateful for this very generous unrestricted gift. We see this donation as an endorsement of our Catholic and Franciscan mission. At this time in history, universities are under scrutiny for many things: price, perceived ideologies and agendas, and employment opportunities for graduates. Saint Francis University's focus continues to educate students who will be moral and ethical decision-makers in society. The mission of our graduates is to bring light into darkness. I am thankful for the anonymous alumni donor who supports our mission. This is a gift freely given to move the University forward."

Unrestricted gifts like this one are particularly vital for Saint Francis University. They provide essential resources that enable the institution to implement strategic changes and address emerging needs with agility. Such donations are not confined to specific projects or purposes, allowing the University to allocate funds where they are most needed, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality education and the advancement of its mission.

"I continue to be amazed at the outpouring of financial support that we annually receive from our alumni and friends. Nearly all gifts we receive of this magnitude are restricted to a capital project or endowment. The donor has allowed us to publicize the unrestricted gift, in hopes it will encourage others to continue their support of our alma mater. We are truly grateful to receive such an exceptional gift," commented Robert Crusciel '86, Vice President for Advancement.

This landmark gift will empower Saint Francis University to further its commitment to developing leaders who exemplify moral and ethical integrity. It will support the University's ongoing efforts to foster an environment where students can thrive academically, personally, and spiritually.

The anonymous donor's generosity is a testament to the deep connection and loyalty of Saint Francis University's alumni. Like this significant contribution, their support is crucial in navigating the challenges facing higher education today. This donation is a significant step forward in the University's journey, reinforcing its dedication to shaping individuals who will positively impact their communities and the world.
