Saint Francis to Offer Esports Scholarships for Competitive Gamers
Loretto, PA (10/31/2019) — Saint Francis University is now offering collegiate scholarships for students to compete in their varsity Esports program for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Currently, SFU is recruiting students to compete in Hearthstone, League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, NBA 2K and Fortnite.
Prospective players will be offered scholarships based on their overall player evaluation by the SFU Esports staff. Scholarship evaluations will take the following into consideration: player ability and skill, projectability into the current needs of the program, academic performance, team dynamics in the arena, and commitment to the program.
The Fall 2019 semester marked the launch of the Esports program at Saint Francis University. Saint Francis now has 31 students competing throughout five game titles in the Eastern College Athletic Conference or ECAC. Saint Francis is also a member institution of the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE). As Saint Francis continues to grow their program, they will also be open to competing in additional leagues and tournaments.
"This puts Saint Francis on the map as a leader in Pennsylvania for Esports," said Luke Trotz, Esports Coach at Saint Francis. He continued by saying, "This will now hopefully draw many students to Loretto to compete for our program as we are the first institution in our region to begin offering scholarships to compete in collegiate Esports."
This is not the only factor that sets Saint Francis' program apart from others in the country. Saint Francis is also proud to provide full support for the players in their program through a staffing model of 3 department professionals, 2 faculty advisors, and a team trainer. The players competing for Saint Francis should not only expect a fully supported Esports program but also achieve a world-class education through its multitude of nationally ranked programs.
Any prospective student that is interested in competing for Saint Francis University's Esports program is invited to complete a player inquiry form at francis.edu/esports.
