Saint Francis to host Regional High School Esports Championships.

Loretto, PA (04/30/2021) — The Saint Francis Esports program in partnership with The Esport Company (TEC) will be hosting the very first High School Esports Championships in our region on Saturday, May 1st in the JFK Student Center of the Saint Francis University campus.

This is the first event of its kind in the Laurel Highlands region and will be the first of many annual TEC High School Esports Championships hosted at Saint Francis University. The TEC High School League began in February of this year and was the inaugural year for organized, competitive esports in the Laurel Highlands region.

The TEC league's inaugural season's membership included Bishop Carroll Catholic High School (Ebensburg), Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School (Altoona), Bishop McCort Catholic High School (Johnstown), Central Cambria High School (Ebensburg), Ferndale Area High School (Johnstown), Forest Hills High School (Sidman), Greater Johnstown High School (Johnstown), Penn Cambria High School (Cresson), Penn Trafford High School (Harrison City), Somerset Area High School (Somerset). These high schools have been competing in two (2) game titles, Overwatch, and Rocket League since the start of the season at the varsity and junior varsity levels.

The TEC High School League inaugural season will now come to an end on Saturday, May 1st in Loretto as six (6) of these high schools compete for the very first TEC High School League Championships. On Saturday, there will be three (3) championship matches -

Junior Varsity Rocket League: Penn Cambria High School vs Somerset Area High School

Varsity Rocket League: Bishop Carroll Catholic High School vs. Penn Trafford High School

Varsity Overwatch: Central Cambria High School vs. Forest Hills High School

The championship series event will begin at 8:30 am in the JFK Student Center, and will include a full day of competitions. The event will be streamed by The Esport Company online via Twitch TV at Twitch.TV/TheEsportCompany. The stream will also be hosted by Saint Francis Esports at Twitch.TV/SaintFrancisEsports.

Area high schools that are interested in competing in the fall 2021 TEC High School League should contact esports@francis.edu for information on how to launch an esports program at their school.
