Saint Francis' Alta Via Program Accepting Applicants

Loretto, PA (02/05/2021) — Saint Francis University is pleased to announce that the application for the Alta Via program is now open. Applicants will be reviewed on an on-going basis. Priority is given to applications submitted before March 31, 2021 for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The Alta Via program represents one of the more recent investments that Saint Francis has developed related to initiatives carefully designed to support and enhance its Catholic, Franciscan identity.

Created for students hoping to deepen their faith along with pursuing their academic study, Alta Via offers students an intentionally Catholic college experience along with like-minded peers. The Alta Via program comprises both curricular and co-curricular components and includes a scholarship for selected individuals. Program participants build community by living together, participating in community engagement activities, and traveling on an international pilgrimage.

Founded in 1847, Saint Francis University is the first Franciscan institution in the country. Intentional support for initiatives related to mission-centric education is a priority for the institution. Now more than ever, the institution is seeking ways to nourish a strong community of faith and prayer among Catholic youth.

Father James Puglis, T.O.R, Alta Via Program Director at Saint Francis University says, "Helping students to live the gospel humanizes the mission and culture of Catholic institutions. Our goal is to profoundly affect the students' spiritual journey and as leaders, we must provide students vibrant opportunities to spread the good word of the Lord." The creation of the Alta Via Program aligns with Ex Corde Ecclesiae "the Church's mission of evangelization of the world" as written by Pope John Paul II while furthering the educational mission of Saint Francis University.

Saint Francis University (www.francis.edu) in Loretto, PA is the oldest Catholic-Franciscan college in the United States. Its mission is to help students grow into compassionate, successful professionals through a culture of generosity, respect, discovery and joy.
